Reflective Narrative
This class worked hand-in-hand with the Senior Capstone course (WLC 400) in terms of the research and technology used to fulfill MLO 4. For example, for the Japanese survey we used Google Forms to make the survey and collect the data, then exported it into Google Sheets. The Google Sheets version of the collected data was most important because we needed to access the individual data in order to make charts in Microsoft Excel. Because I am unaccustomed to Microsoft Excel, some research on how to make certain charts was also required. Altogether, this course heavily contributed to the fulfillment of MLO 4.
Aside from making the graphs, I felt that learning about the formalities of paper writing in Japanese and how to analyze data were more significant outcomes from this course. How to write papers in Japanese was significant to this major because it is not content that comes up in other classes and is vital to the Capstone Project. Analyzing data is also vital for the Capstone Project and can also be applied to MLO 4 as well as other non-Japanese research-related endeavors. After this course, I wish to further develop my formal writing skills. In this class we covered a lot of very useful information that I know I will slowly forget without review and use, so I hope to find such practice opportunities. I’ve also enjoyed finding different ways to present data using infographics on Venngage. Using this experience, I want to present data for any other future projects in similar new and interesting ways; perhaps I will use these skills next year in my Communication Design capstone. |
