Reflective Narrative
In this course, I gained a more solid understanding of this program as well as potential post-graduation options, such as careers and graduate school. A product of my understanding of the Japanese Language and Culture B.A. program is my Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that contains a list of all the classes I have taken as well as a plan of classes that I will take in order to fulfill all of the major and university requirements. This is a more official version of the four year plan I initially made during my freshman year. We also started making our major portfolio (this site) this semester as well. Part of the requirements for the portfolio include a statement of purpose and a resume that I made for this class and will be kept up-to-date on the homepage of this site.
Moving forward, this class gave me the tools to look beyond this current semester and start thinking about the future. This site is one such example; I will be filling out the courses and other reflections during the remainder of my time at CSUMB. Next year I will also be studying abroad in Japan and potentially using this site there as well. Another example is the thought of graduate school. We took a field trip to the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) and got to see and hear interpretations first hand. This was my first time to experience live interpretation and it really inspired me to think about continuing my Japanese studies after my undergraduate degree. |
